Hello, Friends:
Did you know that the Girl Scouts of the 21st century are intent on cultivating leadership skills in middle-school girls? One aspect of adolescent leadership is skill in dealing with aggressive behavior directed at oneself or one’s peers.
If you haven’t heard of the Girl Scouts’ new anti-bullying program, Be a Friend First (BFF), it won’t be long before you do. The curriculum is being rolled out nationwide. Scout troops and school districts in 20 eastern NC counties (called the Coastal Pines region) are taking the lead.
Members of our branch are stepping up to the challenge offered to volunteers to deliver the Girl Scouts’ anti-bullying curriculum at select sites in Wake County. We are encouraged by a positive experience our branch had in 2012 with a similar program that we proposed to East Wake Middle School and delivered to students, parents and school personnel. This seems to be a natural next step.
Are you ready to get involved?
For those who have flexibility during daytime hours, there is an opportunity to be trained this coming…
Monday, Dec 8th, from 10am-12noon.
Shawna Peaks, a member of the Coastal Pines staff who spoke to our branch last month, has arranged for Treka Spraggins and Beth Norris to get an introduction to BFF at the Girl Scouts’ Raleigh Service Center. They would love to have others join them.
The Raleigh Service Center’s address is: 6901 Pinecrest Road, Raleigh, NC 27613
Telephone: 919-782-3021
Please RSVP to Treka Spraggins
